English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses
The English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses are free, optional courses which aim at improving students' productive, interactive and mediating skills in the English language, both spoken and written. They are open to all students at UNIMORE, except for:
- first-year students of Bachelor's Degrees and Single-cycle Master's Degrees;
- students of the Department of Studies on Language and Culture studying one of the following Degree programmes: European Languages and Cultures (LCE); Languages for Communication in International Enterprises and Organizations (LACOM); Languages, Cultures, Communication (LCC).
The English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses are also open to students who own an international certificate in English.
When do these courses take place?
The English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses take place in January-February, June-July and September, i.e. when the curricular activities are suspended. For the academic year 2023/24, only the January-February edition of the courses will be offered.
Is it compulsory to pass my English curricular exam before enrolling onto these courses?
It is not compulsory, but it is strongly advised to take your English curricular exam(s) first.
How can I enrol?
For the 2023/24 edition of the course, students will need to enrol on moodle. From the a.y. 2024/25, students will enrol on Esse3.
Is there a maximum number of students for each course?
Yes, a maximum of 20 students can be admitted to each course. Students lists will be formed based on the chronological order of enrolment. In case of cancellations, we will admit more students.
How are the English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses organised?
The first edition of the course (January-February 2024) will include 30 hours of frontal lessons, which will be taught at the UNIMORE Language Centre (for Modena students) and on the San Lazzaro Campus (Padiglione Buccola-Bisi) in Reggio Emilia (for Reggio students).
Is there a final exam?
Yes, there is an end-of-the-course exam which consists in a written and a spoken test. Only students who have attended at least 70% of lessons will be admitted to the final exam.
Will I get a certificate at the end of the course?
Yes, students who pass the final exam will obtain a certificate.
Do the English B1 Speaking-and-Writing Courses grant CFUs/ECTS?
To be granted CFUs/ECTS, students will need to contact the single Departments.
